D&AD // GAME DESIGN

ONE LAST SHOT

This project was in response to a brief we chose from UsTwo Games. This game represents a first step towards the gaming industry looking for new and innovative ways to address climate change through their game design process.

ONE LAST SHOT

COLLABORATION WITH ELIZABETH CHEA AND SHAKIRA WILSON
Gamers are using immense amounts of energy to power their systems, and it’s creating a catastrophic carbon footprint. A surprisingly large percentage of emissions come from idle mode, when computers aren’t even in use. Through our game design, players are incentivised to turn off their computers as often as possible.

Our challenge was to create a game that educates, empowers and mobilises players and their respective communities to tackle climate change. Traditional gameplay often focuses on the achievements of a solo player, but we were tasked with challenging that status quo and developing a game that not only brings awareness to climate change in a fun and engaging way, but also actively makes a difference in the real world.

One Last Shot is about uniting your community in the face of disaster. It requires players to turn off their computers in order to progress through the game, developing photos in the dark to uncover hidden truths. Through our game design, players are incentivised into the habit of turning off their computers as often as possible.

Let’s empower everyone by powering off.
