EDITORIAL // TYPOGRAPHY
Litterae,
This is a student project where I created a magazine cover and set out a typography for the articles included by Robert Bringhurst and Paula Scher. The name of the magazine is the Latin translation of “Letters”.

Analysing and comprehending the pieces by Bringhurst and Scher has given a lot of insightful information, with this in mind I created a cover that reflects on the past, present and future of technological advancement alongside humans. Inspired by Paula Scher’s quote, “Technology has changed but humans haven’t” the illustration alludes to evolution by mimicking the advancement of technology and the lack of change in daily human life. Letters is the English translation of the Latin Litterae, and readers holding the printed magazine then get a sense of holding something tangible and meaningful, just like the insights that Robert Bringhurst and Paula Scher give to designers of any calibre.
As for the contents of the magazine I followed a layout reflective of each author. For Bringhurst my intention was to keep a smooth flow of typographic detailing whilst having enough movement where the letters appear as if they are dancing on the page. As for Paula Scher I decided to keep my layout rather sporadic and unique. Focusing on the quote mentioned above, I played around by reusing the interview contents and following the glitch format to reiterate Scher's design approach of expression, emotion and feeling.
